Privacy Policy

Fork ("we", "our", or "us") is a bill-splitting app that helps groups divide restaurant checks. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights around it.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly:

• Your display name and Venmo/Cash App handle (stored locally on your device only)
• Restaurant receipt data you scan or enter manually
• Names, emoji, and phone numbers of people you add to a bill

Information collected automatically:

• IP address (used solely for rate limiting scan and nudge requests)
• Bill and participant data submitted when you send a bill (stored on our servers to generate pay links)

2. How We Use Your Information

• To generate unique pay links for each participant in a bill
• To send one-time SMS payment reminders when you request a nudge
• To display itemized receipt data on the web pay page
• To enforce rate limits and prevent abuse

We do not use your information for advertising, marketing, or profiling. We do not sell your data to third parties.

3. SMS Messaging

When a bill creator sends an SMS nudge, the recipient's phone number is collected and used solely to deliver a one-time payment reminder. Recipients provide their number to the bill creator directly. Message and data rates may apply. To opt out of future messages, reply STOP. For help, reply HELP.

SMS messages are sent via Twilio. Message frequency is limited to one nudge per bill per rate-limit window. No recurring messages are sent.

Mobile information will not be shared with third parties/affiliates for marketing/promotional purposes. All other categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

4. Data Retention

Bill data is stored on our servers to keep pay links functional. Your display name and payment handles are stored only on your own device via local storage and are never sent to our servers unless you create a bill.

5. Third-Party Services

• Twilio — used to send SMS nudges. Subject to Twilio's privacy policy.
• Venmo / Cash App — Fork generates deep links to these services but does not interact with them directly. No payment data passes through Fork.
• Google Cloud Vision — used to parse receipt photos. Images are sent to Google's OCR API and are not stored by Fork after processing.

6. No Payment Processing

Fork is a calculator, not a payment processor. We never handle, store, or transmit money or financial account credentials.

7. Children's Privacy

Fork is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

8. Your Rights

You may request deletion of any bill data associated with you by contacting us at the address below. Since there is no user account, bills are identified by the pay link token you received.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision.
